About the Company
Air Canada at a Glance
Air Canada is the country’s largest airline and the leading provider of scheduled passenger services in the domestic Canadian market, the Canada–U.S. transborder market, and the international market to and from Canada.
As a founding member of Star Alliance™, Air Canada is part of one of the world’s most extensive global air transportation networks, offering customers broad access to destinations across the globe through its own operations and partner airlines.
The airline traces its origins to Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA), which operated its inaugural flight on September 1, 1937. That first 50-minute journey, aboard a Lockheed L-10A, carried two passengers and mail between Vancouver and Seattle. Over the following decades, TCA expanded significantly and became Canada’s national airline. In 1964, it officially adopted the name Air Canada. The company later became fully privatized in 1989.
Today, Air Canada is recognized as one of the most important transportation companies in the country, playing a central role in connecting Canadian cities with major business, tourism, and cultural destinations worldwide.
Air Canada’s Class A variable voting shares and Class B voting shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol AC, and on the U.S. OTCQX International Premier under the ticker symbol ACDVF.
The company’s corporate headquarters are located in Montreal, Quebec.
